Concerto 2026 Paolo Restani

Grazie Maestro.

Paolo Restani

A precocious talent that of Paolo Restani, alone 11 years gave his first concert.

In the 1984, sixteen year old, the recital atNational Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome

(Conciliation Auditorium) gets a sensational success, witnessed by the most authoritative critics:

To Santa Cecilia is born a star (Mya Tannenbaum, Corriere della Sera), Already destined to become part of the great piano tradition of our country (Alfredo Gasponi, The Messenger),

Sixteen years old but you don't believe him: Paolo Restani, who made his appearance the other evening at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, it's even shocking (Ivana Musani, Country Evening).

Contracts with the major European theaters immediately follow.

Among the many affirmations of those years, the concert at the Sala Verdi in Milan was memorable

for the Musical Evenings in January 1988: called in to replace Alexis Weissenberg with just a few hours' notice, plays the Heroic Variations of Beethoven and i 12 Studies of transcendent execution di Liszt.

In over forty years of his career he has held concerts in many of the most important musical centers in the world, distinguishing himself for a very personal interpretative trait in constant maturation.

Technical mastery and depth of reading, aimed at making every minimum detail of writing transparent and perceivable, make him an excellent artist especially in the romantic repertoire where his virtuosity brings to mind the great names of the piano tradition: …in Chopin's performance the affinity with Vladimir Horowitz for the stamp, the richness of color and clarity of melody (General newspaper, on the occasion of one of his recitals in Frankfurt, 2017).

The most recent recital word tours: New York Carnegie Hall (Stern Hall) e Lincoln Center, Milan La Scala Theatre, Rome Opera Theatre, Vienna Grosser Musikvereinsaal, Berlin Philharmonic and Concert Hall, Londra Royal Festival Hall e Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Parigi Salle Pleyel, Munich Gaisteig and Prinzregententheater, Lipsia Gewandhaus, Mainz Rheingoldhalle, Innsbruck New Congress Hall e House of Music Large Hall, Mosca International Performing Arts, Buenos Aires Colón Theater and Coliseum, Santiago de Chile Teatro Municipal, Tokyo, Stockholm, Bruxelles, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Beirut, Montevideo, Dubai, Manama, Kuwait City.

The Festvals that have hosted him several times are prestigious: Flanders Festival, Istanbul Festival,

Prague Spring Festival, Bucharest Enescu Festival, Bonn Beethovenfest, BBC Proms,

Budapest Liszt Festival, Miami International Piano, Martha Argerich Festival of Buenos Aires,

Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Ravenna Festival, Brescia and Bergamo Piano Festival,

Andreas Weiser.

He made his debut with Riccardo Muti in Concerto nr. 2 di Liszt (La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra).

It is the debut of a happy collaboration between the two artists, which will continue on several occasions.

Among these, Restani's solo participation, still next to Muti, in symphonic production Lélio or The Return to Life op. 14b di Berlioz with the Concert Association of the Vienna State Opera Choir,  actor Gérard Depardieu (protagonist of the narrative).

At the invitation of Yuri Temirkanov he also participates in the XVII International Festival of St. Petersburg

(St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Prokofiev Concerto nr. 3).

Its popularity is great in South America, where he goes every year.

“The Association of Argentine Critics” awards him in 2005 what better performer, and in 2011 for the concerts with the La Scala String Quartet as best ensemble.

Chamber music enthusiast, he is engaged with the La Scala String Quartet, the Fonè Quartet, the David Quartet, the Soloists of La Scala, the violist Simonide Braconi.

It also supports Monica Bacelli, Guillemette Laurens, Claire Bridge in lieder cycles.

Versatile musician, his solo interpretations often interact with excellences of the world stages – Gérard Depardieu, Enrico Maria Salerno, Olimpia Carlisi, Mariano Rigillo, Gottfried Wagner, Carla Fracci, Beppe Menegatti, Sylvie Guillelme, Laurent Hilaire – giving life to new theatre/music creations.

With the actress Chiara Muti (daughter of Rccardo Muti) dal 2008 al 2014 he created three original plays:

The Kingdom of Rüken - the life of Mozart, Ludwig's dream - the last days of Ludwig II and Wagner, Nevsky Prospect - Gogol and Rachmaninov's Preludes.

In the 2013 Simona Marchini wants him next to her in the performances of Verdi and Liszt's piano paraphrases.

His repertoire ranges from Bach to his contemporaries understanding more than 60 concerts for piano and orchestra and as many recital programs.

The predilection for the masterpieces of Romanticism and the historical twentieth century leads him to tackle Brahms' complete works, most of Chopin's compositions, Debussy, Ravel, Rachmaninov,

the complete works of Chopin's Studies, Scriabin, Liszt (beyond 150 executions of 12 Studies of transcendent execution), as well as the entire corpus for piano and orchestra Of Beethoven, Field, Chopin, Liszt, Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saëns, Casella.

Thanks to the continued dedication to Franz Liszt, it is he is considered among the greatest interpreters.

From the collaboration with Michael Nyman was born the first Italian performance of The Piano Concerto for piano and orchestra, taken from the soundtrack of the Oscar-winning film Piano lessons by Jane Campion.

Dal 2018 è Steinway Artist.

His CDs and DVDs are published by Deutsche Grammophon, DECCA, Brilliant Classics,

Amadeus, L'Espresso Publishing Group, Aulicus Classics, Stradivarius, Imd Music & Web.

Paolo Restani was the last and favorite pupil of Vincenzo Vitale (famous exponent of the Neapolitan Piano School, he studied with Florestano Rossomandi, Attilio Brugnoli e, In the end, with Alfred Cortot at the École Normale de Musique di Paris).

Subsequently his teachers were Gerhard Oppitz (heir to the interpretative art of Wilhelm Kempff) all’College of Music and Theater di Monaco di Baviera, and Peter Lang at Mozarteum di Salisburgo. He also received lessons from Vladimir Ashkenazy, Aldo Ciccolini,
